Hygiene is the practice of caring for your body. Brushing your teeth, using deoderant, washing your hands, and taking showers are all good examples of practicing good hygiene. Use this website as a way to learn more about it and different ways to do it.

Washing your Hands

Washing your hands is very beneficial to you and your body. Your hands make contact with so many germs a day that you could risk sickness if they reach inside your eyes, ears, nose, or mouth. It's best to wash your hands after using the bathroom, changing your trash, cleaning the toilet, cleaning a litter box, etc. According to Healthline, the best way to wash your hands is to take 20-30 seconds and clean between the fingers, under your nails, the back of your hand, etc.

Showering

Showering is a great way to clean yourself off. It will get rid of bacteria, dead skin, oils, and anything unnecessary clinging to you. According to Healthline, it's best to shower at least every other day. As for washing your hair though, you should do so at least 2 times a week. Really, it depends on texture and how healthy it is.

Nail Care

Taking care of your nails is important to your health, especially during a pandemic. You should always trim and clean them as needed to make sure no dirt or bacteria will infect you. The CDC warns to not chew on your nails, cuticles, or rip off a hangnail because of the possible infection it can cause. A sign of said infection could be red skin swelling around the area or thick nails.

Brushing your Teeth

According to EverydayHealth, When you brush your teeth, bacteria is cleaned from your mouth and prevents the chance of tooth decay. It's best to brush your teeth at least twice a day, or after every meal. After breakfast and before bed is the most ideal time. It's important to floss as well to keep your gums as healthy as can be. Better gums means better teeth, this goes either ways.

Sleep

The amount of sleep you need a night really depends on your age, but a good amount for everyone is 8 - 12 hours. Sleep helps your brain with many things. According to EverydayHealth, sleep can help with things like your immune system, help you feel refreshed, and helps your body's natural defenses. If you were to live without sleep, your body and brain would be weak and have trouble functioning.
